Our story
We started as Dachshund owners and spent years learning about the breed’s temperament, structure, health concerns, and care needs. Searching for another puppy showed us how difficult it could be to find clear health information, complete records, and a breeder willing to answer direct questions.
Old Oak grew from that experience. We built the program around health testing, puppies raised inside our home, straightforward documentation, thoughtful family matching, and support after homecoming.
Families deserve time to ask questions and review the records that apply to a puppy. We share what we know and say when something remains uncertain.
What guides our program
Our breeding plans, daily routines, and placement process follow three practical priorities.
We screen breeding dogs for PRA-cord1 and NCL and complete OFA clearances for patellas, heart, and eyes before they enter our program. We also consider structure and teach families about healthy weight, safe handling, and IVDD risk reduction.
Puppies grow up around household sounds, people, handling, different surfaces, rest periods, and the routines they will meet in family life.
Families can contact us for guidance on training, nutrition, healthy weight, everyday care, and reducing avoidable strain on a Dachshund’s back.
The first weeks
We balance sleep, gentle handling, age-appropriate learning, and gradual exposure to normal home life.
We use the Puppy Culture framework as a guide. Puppies receive brief Early Neurological Stimulation exercises from days 3 to 16.
From weeks 3 to 8, puppies meet household sounds, floor surfaces, crate familiarity, visitors, gentle care, and basic potty-training routines. They also receive predictable meals, rest, and short periods of age-appropriate activity.
Each profile lists current vaccinations, registration, availability, and health-guarantee information. Families may request the applicable parent health records before placing a deposit. The written guarantee explains coverage, exclusions, and buyer responsibilities.
Finding the right fit
We ask about your schedule, children, other pets, stairs, travel, training plans, and the time a puppy may spend alone. Those details help us assess whether a Dachshund fits your household and which available puppy may suit it. Coat color and sex can guide a preference, but daily routines and long-term care determine the practical match.
We share current observations about each puppy’s confidence, handling, energy, and routines. Temperament continues to develop, so we do not promise a fixed adult personality or an exact adult size.

Our state Department of Agriculture licenses our program and inspects it each year. Prospective families may request current licensing and inspection information.
If you can no longer keep a dog we bred, contact us. We will take the dog back at any age so it has a safe place to return.

Before you apply
Current prices appear on the available puppies page and each puppy profile. The listed amount reflects the individual puppy and the care, veterinary work, registration, health testing, and early socialization behind the placement.
Yes. Our litters are registered with the American Kennel Club. Each placement includes the applicable registration documents and lineage information.
Approved applicants may arrange an in-person visit after the puppies complete their first vaccination round at six weeks. We also provide weekly video updates.
We do not place puppies before eight weeks of age. Timing also depends on the puppy’s development, veterinary care, and readiness.
Yes. Ask for the applicable health-testing records for the sire and dam before placing a deposit.
Yes. Waitlist placement requires a deposit, and availability changes because we raise a limited number of litters. Contact us for current plans and timing.
Available options may include pickup, an agreed meetup, in-cabin flight nanny service, or eligible ground transport. We do not transport puppies in cargo. Read our shipping and delivery information for details.
