Transportation is discussed after the family has been approved, the puppy has been reserved, and the adoption arrangements are clear. No puppy leaves before eight weeks of age. Development and the attending veterinarian’s travel clearance may require a later date.
Old Oak does not arrange cargo-hold transportation for puppies. Available services, schedules, routes, and fees can change. We confirm the plan in writing before anyone books travel.

A puppy flying in the passenger cabin with a nanny is not alone, not in a cargo hold, and not in a crate for hours without supervision. The nanny holds the carrier, checks on the puppy through the flight, offers water, and hands the puppy directly to you at the arrival airport. The flight itself is usually 4 to 6 hours. Most puppies sleep through a good portion of it.
The experience is harder on the family waiting than it is on the puppy. By the time you meet at the airport, the puppy has been fed, held, and comforted for the duration of the trip. Puppies that travel this way arrive calm, alert, and ready to meet you.
We book the most direct route available for the puppy’s destination, the same way you would book a flight for yourself. When layovers cannot be avoided, we track the itinerary and keep you updated at each stage. You will know the flight number, the departure time, and the arrival time before the puppy leaves us.
The puppy arrives the same day the trip begins. We confirm the handoff time and location with you in advance, including which terminal, where to park, and who to look for at arrivals.
Pre-approved pickup may be available by appointment. An agreed regional or airport meetup may also be possible when the route and schedule work for both parties. We provide the final time, location, handoff instructions, and items the family should bring before the appointment.
An in-cabin flight nanny accompanies the puppy inside the passenger cabin and completes the handoff at the agreed airport. Availability depends on the route, airline requirements, weather, and the nanny’s schedule. The family receives the itinerary and handoff details after the service is confirmed.
We work only with airlines that operate approved pet-safe in-cabin programs. We do not book puppies into cargo, and we do not ship a puppy on a route we would not fly ourselves.
Ground transportation may be discussed for suitable routes. The puppy’s comfort, travel time, pickup schedule, and transporter availability all affect whether this option makes sense. Old Oak confirms the service details with the family before booking.
The puppy’s going-home package includes the applicable veterinary and vaccination records, ownership-transfer or registration documents, written health terms, comfort items, and the current food and care guidance described on the puppy profile.
Inside the travel carrier, we place a soft bed of shredded paper for the puppy to nestle into, a safe chew appropriate for the puppy’s age, and a small cloth that carries the scent of the litter. Frozen water is placed in the carrier so it gradually thaws during the trip and provides a cool drink along the way. Feeding instructions are attached to the outside of the carrier so the nanny has them at hand.
For ground transport, we schedule travel during the cooler hours in summer and provide the same comfort items and care guidance.
Transportation charges are separate from the puppy’s listed price unless the written agreement says otherwise. The final amount depends on the chosen method, destination, route, and provider. Families receive the amount before a service is booked.
Plan a quiet arrival, a safe resting area, fresh water, and the puppy’s current food. Keep the first day calm. Contact your veterinarian in advance and schedule the initial examination within the period stated in the health guarantee.
We are available by phone and email through the entire process. If a flight is delayed, a route changes, or anything unexpected comes up, we will reach out to you before the puppy lands. You will never be waiting at an airport without information.
