Old Oak provides a health guarantee that explains the initial veterinary examination, qualifying hereditary or congenital conditions, required records, exclusions, available remedies, and the buyer’s care responsibilities. Read it before you reserve.
We take pride in our relationship with you continuing long after you take home a puppy from us. As conscientious breeders and lifelong Dachshund lovers, we’d like to believe nothing can ever go wrong. However, certain things are never in our control. A puppy’s health is dependent on a lot of factors — genetics, exercise, food and nourishment, and overall care.
If something does go wrong, we always strive to help, oftentimes even when our guarantee doesn’t cover it. While we may not be able to guarantee that your puppy will never have a health problem, we guarantee that we will do our best to ensure your new family member is a healthy one.
Puppies receive veterinary care and age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming before homecoming. The going-home records identify the care that applies to the individual puppy. The package includes a veterinary health certificate and applicable registration or ownership-transfer documents.
Send us a copy of the examination (medical record) within 3 business days of receiving your pet. A licensed veterinarian must perform the examination. We also require you to have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within ten days of receiving the puppy.
Your pet will come with up-to-date, age-appropriate vaccinations, so do not vaccinate within the first ten days of receiving your pet.
A prompt examination gives your veterinarian a baseline for the puppy’s health and lets you discuss feeding, vaccination timing, parasite prevention, exercise, and breed-specific care.
Coverage addresses qualifying hereditary or congenital conditions for a two-year period from the puppy’s birth date. In the unlikely event of the death of a puppy within two years from its birth due to genetics, or if the pet is found to have congenital or hereditary disorders (within two years) which adversely affect the health of your puppy, we will replace the pet with another of equivalent value at no cost to you. The cause of death should be certified by a licensed veterinarian.

A health guarantee cannot promise that a dog will never become ill or injured. Genetics, nutrition, weight, exercise, accidents, environment, and routine veterinary care all affect long-term health.
Nothing delights us more than knowing we brought a healthy, happy puppy to you. We ask for your help to keep your puppy healthy. Here are a few measures that will help:
Dachshunds have long backs and short legs. This makes intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) the most significant health consideration in the breed. Keep your dog at a healthy weight, reduce repeated jumping from furniture, supervise stairs, and support both the chest and hindquarters when lifting — one hand under the chest, one under the hindquarters. Ask your veterinarian about exercise and equipment for your individual puppy.
We require all our puppies to undergo a thorough checkup before they are shipped to you. Our licensed vet performs this checkup and issues the Veterinary Health reports for all our puppies. This report certifies each puppy’s health against Cardiovascular, Skin, Coat, Eyes, Mouth, Teeth, Gums, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Ears, Urogenital, and Gastrointestinal diseases.
We will complete this health report on the date we ship the puppy to you to ensure the puppy’s health is guaranteed. Our veterinarian then reviews the report for any issues or concerns. If there are any serious issues with the puppy, then he/she will not be shipped to you. Thanks for your cooperation.
We cannot guarantee the disposition or temperament, conformation, size, weight, color, markings, or breeding ability of your new pet.
No replacements will be given if the breed is known to be prone to IVDD or if the dog is overweight. Maintaining a healthy body condition is one of the most important things you can do to protect a Dachshund’s long-term health.
Failure to provide your puppy with timely inoculations or regular veterinary care will void this guarantee.
This guarantee does not cover any costs associated with spaying or neutering, including undescended testes.
Additional exclusions may apply. These include conditions caused by injury, inadequate care, missed veterinary requirements, obesity, parasites after homecoming, breeding, or failure to follow the reporting and documentation process described on this page.
